A Streetfighter For The World

As featured on the #1 custom bike website www.bikeexif.com/nyc-norton/ In early 2014 we got a call from an overseas number on the shop phone.  On the other end of the call was a pleasant voice with an unidentifiable accent who introduced himself as "Joe".  He was calling from his home in a small country nestled in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.  He had just purchased a pristine Norton Commando in the States and asked if we could add some performance and reliability mods to it before ultimately shipping it across the seas to him.  Sounded easy enough.  This was the humble beginning of a relationship that has circled the Earth many times.  Having already in his stable a bone-stock Commando, as well as other vintage bikes of various marques, Joe wanted this Commando to have a bit more "oomph".  This is our specialty and we were very happy to [...]

Racing 2014

Barber Motorsports Park in October is the pinnacle of any classic motorcyclist's schedule and the highlight of the US vintage racing calendar, but in turn feels a little bittersweet, simply because it punctuates the end of each racing season.  The event itself is huge, with 65,000 spectators visiting over the weekend, each year growing more and more.  And just when you think it can't get bigger, it does.  NYC Norton's representation has also expanded over the years and this year we had 11 bikes under the NYC Norton canopy.  And with all that's going on, we rarely get a chance to leave our compound and see all the sights.  It's a black hole of laughing, swearing, and sweating.  This year was no different.  And the intensity that Barber brings started in the shop right after we got home from Miller. Three NYC Norton G50s up on the lifts getting [...]

Pack It Up

We've been tardy at posting one of the biggest announcements in our racing times... the invitation to compete in the Island Classic at Phillip Island, Australia, January 24-26, 2014.  The Australians have graciously extended their hand to a select few Americans, inviting them to compete in this huge event, and we are most flattered to have been included.  There are 2 groups of American racers heading over; a West Coast group headed up by Dave Crussel, and an East Coast group, arranged by Bob Coy (USCRA).  Our little sub-group - Dave Roper, Maurice Candy, our filmmaker friend Don Lange (who will be capturing the whole event - more on that in another post later), and me (Kenny Cummings) - will be departing from New York, flying into Sydney, doing a bit of sight-seeing, then meandering our way down to Phillip Island. The Aussies are a tough lot - competitive and [...]

Racing Update

The 2012 season was winding down, but we had a sudden burst of greatness enter our lives with the new Seeley G50 arrival (click here for G50 details) so it was important to get some seat time on the bike before heading into Barber.  We packed up the G50 and Atlas and headed south to West Virginia - Summit Point, to be exact - where we would race with WERA for a day.  At 4.5 hours of driving, Summit Point is our closest track to NYC that offers vintage racing (2 miles further than New Hampshire Motor Speedway, according to Google, but much quicker to get to), so this was a walk in the park for our one-day adventure.  We got to the track Friday night, set up the canopy, and awoke Saturday morning to a perfect fall day.  We filled the bikes with oil and gas and away we [...]

A G50 Premier

After an outing on stunning Minnovation Racing Works Seeley G50 at Cadwell Park, a deal was struck for NYC Norton to provide complete Seeley G50 racing bikes here in the states. Minnovation and NYC Norton immediately began collaborating, building up the sister bike to the Minnovation Works G50 to showcase and campaign here in the US.   The bike was completed and track-ready by early September, 2012, in time for AHRMA/Barber festival, and a shakedown run at Summit Point beforehand.  Weighing in at under 240lbs it is an incredibly tidy package with an phenomenal power-to-weight ratio   Minnovation short-stroke G50 motor.  NRP stainless exhaust.   Absolutely top spec for the 500 Premier class.   The detail work is second to none.  Replica Fontana 210mm Front Brake.  Cosentino Internals in Roadholder forks   Replica Fontana 180mm magnesium rear brake with cush-drive sprockets   We may be biased, but this is our pick [...]

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor hail…

So I jumped on an  Aeroplane and made my way across the Atlantic, touching down in Manchester, home of Joy Division and coal mining factories, but the sun was shining and folks were chipper.  I took the train to Wakefield, near Minnovation's works (shop), and was greeted at the station by my best mate Martin Page - major domo of Minnovation Racing.  From this point until I was plopped back on the plane back to NYC I was treated like royalty.  Martin and all at Minnovation made me feel like a superstar the entire trip.  When I arrived at the shop I took one look at the bikes and was blown away.  I've said it before but it bears repeating, I am so proud to be a part of this team.  Not simply because I get to race their stunning bikes at exotic tracks in faraway lands, but because they [...]
