Racing 2014

The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association, or AHRMA, has lumped a lot of their racing weekends into back-to-back events.  There are mixed feelings about this as 50% believe it's impossible to take that much time off from work, and the other 50% like the fact they can get more bang for their travel buck.  For our East Coast-based racing operation, the back-to-backs weekends of Willow Springs and Sonoma Raceway in Southern and Northern California, respectively, made for easy planning and logistics.  So the Sprinter was loaded with a Seeley 750, A Norton Atlas, and a Seeley G50, topped off with diesel, and away we went.   Willow Springs Raceway, Rosemond, CA, April 25, 2014 We'd all heard so much about how Willow is a locals track, it's fast, it's hot, it's cold, and it's windy, then it's really windy, all of which became perfectly clear very quickly.  We arrived Thursday [...]

Racing Update

The 2013 racing season got off to a later start than usual, due mainly to work commitments that took precedence over the first two AHRMA rounds happening at New Orleans and Talladega in early Spring.  So, when the opportunity arose to ride my old friend Ron Halem's Goldstar out in Sonoma in May, I jumped at the chance.  I'd never been to Sonoma and it seemed like a long way to go for a single race weekend, but the chance to race at such a place up in beautiful Northern Cali was too much to pass up. Ron's bike was immaculately prepared, as per usual.  The last time the bike had been out was with me on board at Miller in September 2012l, and I'd really shagged the Dunlops that weekend, so we put on some new tires and had at it. Racing Update

After playing around over in the UK, and now having missed 3 AHRMA National rounds (Roebling, Talladga, and Willow Springs) it was time to get busy here at home.  The Road America/Grattan back-to-back weekends are favorites on the NYC Norton calendar, and a fitting first outing in the US.  Plus, master NYC Norton spannerman Jon Thorndike was making his racing debut at Road America on his properly maintained Norton Atlas.  So we loaded up the Teutonic transporter and set the controls for the center of cheese country.  The weekend was predicted to be Hot and Hazy, Fast and Crazy.  And it was.  As we arrived and set up our pit,  someone had the foresight to snap a nice shot of the bikes before they got all race weary.  #17 Seeley Commando sporting new livery with silver and gold pinstripes.  Thorny's bike with a new fairing, but yet to have its [...]
